What's the deal with all the negative comments on your guestbook?!  I tried
to find something juicy, racist or whatever that you wrote, but I just found
pretty much daily observations, etc.  Why all the ranting?  I want dirt!

Oh, I'm from chicago too.  Always on the quest for ultimate restaurants.
Have you tried sushi wabi yet?

Well J,

Once upon a time, I made some people mad at me by not kowtowing to their whims.

And they took it upon themselves to post on my guestbook, repeatedly, about what a horrible person I am.

And then someone else decided to jump in and post more things about me that weren't very Christian.

The way I was raised is to investigate things before jumping headlong into them. Rarely will I post anything on anyone else's site without checking the site out first. If it isn't something I can get behind, I won't post there.

The injured parties didn't bother to suss out the nature of my site first, and it nipped them in the ass.

And instead of taking it in stride and moving on with life, they got nasty about it.

But, the problem with calling someone names, and then putting them down repeatedly in a short period of time, is that it makes you look incredibly immature and petty.

Apparently, I am offensive to the world at large, and until I either clean up my act and become nice, or take down my website -- which is a blight on the internet and the source of many evils, this second person has promised to keep posting negative things about me in my own guestbook.

That's right, I'm being scourged from der interweb via shame-inducing posts on my guestbook.

Honestly, as far as I am concerned, anyone can say anything they want about me on my guestbook. I may make an admin reply, but I thus far refuse to delete anyone's postings. You can talk all the trash about me that you want. Just prepare to be made to look the fool.

Now, my detractors are right about some things, in that I am not always nice. I point that out often. In fact, I am quite capable of thinking up such acts of malevolence and straight-out naughtiness that it'd make the baby Jesus cry. However, I choose to not turn those thoughts into actions because I am not generally inclined to do things like that.

See, if something is incredibly offensive to me, I DON'T READ IT ANYMORE. I know that while I have the right to read whatever I want, particularly if the readable items are publicly posted, I don't have to read them.

And if I feel strongly enough about something, I do something about it.

Certainly something more proactive than taunting someone in their guestbook.

But that's just me.

On the subject of Sushi Wabi, no, I can't say that I've been. I am quite allergic to many forms of shellfish, and don't care for a lot of things that I can safely eat sushi-wise. Quivering globs of raw fish are icky. I am rather partial to avocado rolls, though. And I do like the bowls of miso soup. Tifling informs me that Sushi Wabi is very good, and that she hasn't been for a long time, which makes me believe it is a place of quality.

There are so many damned restaurants in this town, I don't even know where to begin. I've been to several great places for carnivores, and I've been to a lot of bistros. I've been to several super classy joints, and I've been to some hole in the wall dives. Consistently, though, I'd have to say that my favorite restaurant has to be Chef's Station in Evanston. I also like the Stained Glass in Evanston, even though it's noisy and slow -- they had a Hudson Valley foie gras BLT appetizer which was about the best BLT I've ever had. While it is largely fish-based, Atlantique is primo good -- they have super good martinis, too. Pure girly-drink-drunk kinda stuff. Bob Chinn's is also good for fish and booze. I have enjoyed 160 blue on more than one occasion -- they have a Hudson Valley foie gras and poached pear on gingerbread that makes my soul sing. I like Fogo when I am super hungry for the meaty goods. Bistro Zinc is good. Cyrano's Bistro is good. Brasserie Jo has some fierce chocolate mousse, lemme tell you. I like Italian Village downtown. Tru is fantastic. Grande has delicious basil chicken. Uncommon Ground has good risotto and a wonderful corn chowder. Strega Nona is filling and tasty. Oh gosh, and there are so many more I haven't mentioned.

I guess I like good food a lot, and have been blessed to have friends with very good taste in places to eat.

If'n there's some more places you think I should visit, let me know.

Have I adequately answered your queries?

(and I think we'll just keep your email addy to ourselves, okay?)
