...in my head

Tuesday was the great kitty round-up.

As you may recall, we have a considerable number of felines living around here. Most of us love all of the kitties, but we all agree that extra future kitties are unnecessary.

One of Carol's clients told me about the West Liberty vet's office having a special deal for the fixing of farm cats. Any number of kitties brought in to them in amounts of three or greater were eligible for a steep discount in the fixing price. Boy cats are $5, girls are $10, and pregnant girls are $20.

Mom and dad caught all of the cats except Dikker, who hates people enough to never be caught without blood being drawn from multiple human sources, and stuck them all in cat carriers.

Celeste went in one by herself, as any other cats put in the carrier with her wouldn't have made it to West Liberty in an intact-enough state to require spaying or neutering. Cricket, Dora, Cheesecake, Sombra, Clarissa, Patches, Koh, Jerry were all divvied up between the other two carriers. All were then stuck in the back of the truck and driven away.

Somewhere between here and the Bowersack's house, Cheesecake managed to extricate himself from his carrier, and bolted out of the back of the truck, escaping safely to more testicularly-friendly climes.

The rest of the poor suckers went to the vet, returning home later that same day. One hundred dollars and many hours later, they all returned, a little lighter in weight, a lot grumpier, and completely incapable of breeding.

My only true regret out of all of this is that Dikker or Jerry will never have a chance to spawn with Dora, which would have resulted in oodles of delicate gray tortoiseshell kittens.

Which would have been cuter than hell.

Yesterday & Tomorrow.
