I finally got my Illinois license to practice cosmetology, which means I am actually licensed to thrill in two different states.
Because who wouldn't be thrilled to get their hair done or their faced waxed by yours truly? I arch a damn fine brow, and I particularly rock at razor cuts.
The only downside to the entire situation is that the license expires on September 30, 2003, which, incidentally, is the 7-year anniversary of my becoming a wage slave for this company. All hair/nail/aesthetic pracititioner licenses expire every September 30, of every odd year.
This means that I have to pay $50 to renew the license, and take 16 hours of continuing education. Fortunately, they will accept any con-ed credits from the previous two years, and just this last October, I took an 8-hour class in Illinois. So I only need to take 8 more hours, which shouldn't be too difficult.
The Iowa license is good until March 31, 2005, and only requires 8 hours of con-ed before then and $65 to renew. So, I could use the same 8 hours I need to renew the Illinois license to renew the Iowa one, should I choose to keep it active.
Amusingly, I had no intention of ever working in Illinois when I took that class last year. It just happened to be a better class than any crap that was being offered around here, and afforded me an excuse to go visit friends in Chicago. Life is funny like that.
What's in your head?
