...in my head

06.13.03

I ran into the Jewish lady that told me about how Orthodox women are supposed to wear their hair covered at all times because of their belief system, and I told her that now everytime I see a woman with a hat or scarf on, I secretly wondered if it was because she is Jewish, or perhaps Muslim.

And she told me that a lot of women in this town wear hats because it is summertime, and hats block the sun from getting in eyes and messing with haircolor.

Which, I suppose is accurate, but not exactly the point I was making.

You don't generally wear a beret or snood in 90°F weather because you're concerned about your hair bleaching out. And they most certainly don't cover the eyes by any stretch of the imagination, unless I suppose they were pulled down over the eyes like blinders, which is impractical and plain silly.

Hey, a lot of women in this town wear hats or scarves on their noggins because they're too lazy to do their hair everyday, but they don't generally go for shapeless utilitarian headwear. They wear attractive, usually-ornamental headgear, and they do it year-round, too.

So there.

Yesterday & Tomorrow.
