...this i know to be true

The other day, I was watching Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken, starring Gabrielle Anwar and Michael Schoeffling.

And I started to ponder the fact that the three roles he is mostly known for involve getting busy with much younger women.

In Sixteen Candles, he, playing high school senior Jake Ryan, hooks up with 16-yo Samantha Baker, played by Molly Ringwald.

In Mermaids, he, playing adult Joe Porretti, snogs teenager Charlotte Flax, played by Winona Ryder.

In Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken, he plays adult Al Carver, who macks on and eventually marries Sonora Webster, portrayed by Gabrielle Anwar as a school girl, although the actual Sonora Webster was 20 when she met Al Carver, and well into her 20's when she married him. She also didn't accidentally detach her retinas until years after she became a diving girl. More info about Sonora is here.

And in the process of researching names of characters, I stumbled across the mystery of Michael Schoeffling himself. Apparently, his role in 1991's Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken is his last acting role. After much researching by other people, it seems that he is married to a woman named Valerie, has a couple of kids, and runs a furniture-making business somewhere in Pennsylvania.

More power to him.

I just remember thinking he was dreamy in Mermaids. Especially because he wasn't age-ist.

Yore & Yon.
