Today, Kimmy. was supposed to be my straight date to the 2004 Chicago Pride Parade.
When we were out and about the other day, handing out flyers and shopping, she asked me if I wanted to go to the parade with her, because she didn't want to go by herself, but thought it might be fun.
And I said sure.
I talked to her at 10 am today, and she told me she was unpacking boxes, but agreed to meet me at 11:45 am outside a specific place near the parade route, 15 minutes before the parade was to begin.
I decided to take the train, because driving would be a nightmare in that neighborhood, got there on time, and went inside to wait for her to arrive.
At 12:10 pm, and 3 voicemail messages later, I decided to go wait for Kim out in front of the Hungry Tomato on Halsted, so that I could see the parade go by.
Around 12:20, a friend from work called to entertain me.
I saw someone from work with a basket of goodies, passing out samples to the crowd, and she looked like she was hot, but having fun.
Lemme tell you, people see girls in aprons handing out free things and they literally come running up wanting some of whatever it is. They also hang off balconies and rooftops shouting "Hey, (Store Name)! Up here!" and then dance around with glee, making wild grabs as you chuck tiny bottles of conditioner at their heads.
Se did, however, manage to create a little disappointment for the a) men that thought she was handing out lube, b) the people of both genders that thought she was handing out sunscreen, and c) the guy that saw a water bottle in the basket and thought she was giving out beverages until he saw the contents of the basket.
I bought myself and the girl from work a couple of Firecrackers (glorified bomb pops) from a Good Humor man, and for a little while, we stood around shouting and waving at the people on the floats, aandll while sucking down fruity sweet cold goodness on a stick.
I walked with the girl back to the store, used the restroom, and I then walked a few blocks up to Marshall's, where I bought a cute pink Tink t-shirt, before walking up Belmont to catch the train home.
There was a huge line to get a train, so I stood outside for ten minutes before I even got to swipe my transit card, and that's about all the fun I had for the day.
I went home, ate, watched a little TV, did some paperwork, updated, and here you go.
Now I am going to go eat strawberries and watch a sucky sci-fi movie about deadly snakeheads.
Ciao.
