I can accept that this country plans to take reprisal against Osama Bin Laden, because we've announced our intentions to do so. I can accept it, but I do not like it, and I am not proud of it.
However, I do not expect to hear on the radio, while driving down the road, that the Emmys have been cancelled out of deference to the fact that we've been bombing key cities and military complexes in Afghanistan since 11:30am, our time.
That's the middle of the night there. All I could picture was innocent, opressed people asleep in their beds, waking up to our violence, thinking the world is ending right around them.
And maybe it really is, because it feels like it from here.
