Dear Pixie,
I've been following your site for quite some time. You've helped me through a lithium phase and guided me through questionable moments. I view you as a friend, whether or not I should do so.
Yet I'm left with a very deep question, one that resounds in my head as much as I think it might echo in yours.... what the fuck is it going to take to make us happy? Is it money or recognition or copious amounts of sugar and chocolate???
I just so happened into lots of money. I've got thousands of dollars at my disposal. And you know what? I miss my friends (perhaps figments of my imagination, but I hope not) and their quirky attitudes.
Is there anything in this world that will make us happy? Aside from great interior decorating and lavish apartments?
Just wondering if you were thinking the same thing that I am...
Cat
Of course you can call me a friend, and I'm glad to know that I've actually been of some assistance to someone. Sometimes I am left questioning whether or not I have anything to offer the world beyond the expert execution of stylish hairdos and my impeccable fashion sense.
I have given a lot of thought as to what might actually make me happy, because I do not consider myself to be a happy person. I certainly am not happy most of the time, and during those brief glimmering moments where I find myself at peace with the world, smiling and bouncing around, I might actually be happy, but I might also be in the throes of some sort of mental episode where I forget for a moment that every waking moment of my life is tedious and full of suckage.
Things that do actually make me happy:
- Caramel Apple suckers that are mostly caramel.
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in particular, the new episodes. I actually spend most of the week looking forward to 1am Sunday morning.
- Walking in the warm sunshine to yoga class, pondering what I'm going to see in the river that day. Is it a crappy half-submerged mountain bike? A runaway pumpkin? A bloated corpse?
- Sleeping in without being woken by trains, neighbors and their loud music, or the blinding brightness of the early morning sun.
I'd like a longer list, but that is all I can think of right now.
As far as ways to spend money, might I suggest participating in a new organization in the spirit of groups like The Christian Children's Fund, or the Adopt-A-Whale Program? I like to call it "The Pixiemartin Lifestyle Fund." For a certain donation each month, you can sponsor an important part of my lifestyle, and in return each month, you will receive pictures and letters from your sponsored item.
Examples?
- For $15/mo, you can help provide cellular support via the Pink Barbie Phone.
- For $25/mo, you can help provide hours of entertainment through the Big Talking Picture Box.
- And more!
For a larger, one-time donation, you can adopt and name a larger item, like the car or a piece of furniture, and receive a special certificate in recognition of your support.
Or, even better, you could use that money to get the hell out of whatever crappy town you're trapped in now, and start over with a brand new life and situation. Reinvent yourself. Live large. And whatever you do, don't blow it all on strippers.
Much love,
-- me
