(My favorite lovely parting gift from my trip to Colorado is the wondrous chest cold I'm now enjoying. It's phlegmtastic!)
Last night I was watching a nature program on the Discovery channel, and they were discussing the mating habits of some sort of Galapagos albatross.
This pair of birds was snuggled up, eyes closed, their long necks entwined as they preened each other with their lethal-looking beaks. It made me go all misty.
And then they had to go and show their mating dance, where they bob and weave and clack their beaks against each other's like they're dueling. This is followed by them alternately bouncing back and rearing their head high, beak splayed open like scissors while the other bows forward, a ludicrous display that had me giggling.
At least they mate for life. All that preening and beak clacking is spent on one partner, which makes it a little less goofy and a little more sweet.
