I like the immediacy of the internet. It's here, and there, and everywhere: point-and-click, instant gratification.
And, when I say that I talk to people, or that I spoke to someone the other day, usually I mean online. As sad as it seems, I spend the majority of my face-to-face talk time with people at work, and the rest is mostly virtual in nature.
If it weren't for the internet, I probably wouldn't have a whole lot of outside interaction. I manage to stay in contact with family and friends that are all over the map, and I have to admit that I'm a terrible snail-mail correspondent.
That's not to say that I am a hermit living in a cave. In fact, a great deal of plan-making with local friends is done online. Or arranging trips and visits with people from out of town. My telephone is almost obsolete anymore.
Maybe that makes me a sad, pathetic creature, but I prefer to think of it as being progressive and cutting edge. I'm on the forefront on the latest communication trend! I'm trucking along on the internet superhighway! I'm l33t!
Uh-huh.
